What is Pyrantelum OWIX and what is it used for

The active substance of the drug is pyrantel. Pyrantelum OWIX is an antiparasitic drug intended for children aged 6 years and older and adults in the treatment of intestinal infection with pinworms – roundworms of the white colour. This drug acts on the muscles of intestinal parasites. Immobilized parasites are removed from the intestine by peristaltic movements of the intestines. Pyrantel does not irritate the intestines or cause the worms to move. It works on mature forms and parasites in the early stages of development, but does not work on larvae during their migration in the tissues.

Indications for use: Pinworm

The condition for using the drug is to confirm the presence of pinworms in the stool and (or) the area of ​​the anus. Pinworms are small, white parasitic worms that live in the intestine. They look like threads of white cotton wool and their females are about 10 mm long. Individual pinworms are difficult to spot, but when they multiply excessively, white, one-centimeter-long worms can be clearly seen moving in the stool. The presence of pinworms can also be detected when examining the area around the anus of a sleeping child in the evening (preferably 2 hours after falling asleep, when the egg-laying process takes place). It is very important to maintain proper hygiene, especially personal hygiene, in order to prevent self-infection or transmission of infection to other people. The rules listed below should be followed for at least 6 weeks after the end of treatment.

Always use this medicine exactly as described in the patient information leaflet or as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. If in doubt, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

Dosage
The dose should be repeated two or three weeks after taking the first dose. Do not exceed the recommended dose of the medicine. Control parasitological tests should be performed 14 days after the end of treatment. If symptoms persist after the second dose, contact your doctor. Due to the pharmaceutical form of the drug Pyrantelum Owix, 250 mg, tablets is not intended for use in children under 6 years of age. There is a drug containing pyrantel in the form of an oral suspension also intended for use in young children.

Method of administration
The drug is administered orally during or after a meal with water.
Before swallowing, the tablet should be chewed or crushed very carefully.

Taking a higher than recommended dose of Pyrantelum OWIX
If you take a higher than recommended dose of the drug, consult a doctor or pharmacist immediately. After an overdose of the drug, the following symptoms may occur: visual disturbances, disorientation, dizziness, fainting or a feeling of dizziness when getting up from a lying or sitting position, sweating, a previously unseen feeling of tiredness or weakness, irregular heartbeat; muscle spasm, tremors and weakness; feeling of exhaustion, difficulty breathing, loss of consciousness. How to store Pyrantelum OWIX

Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children. Store below 25°C. Store in the original package. Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the carton. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month. Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines you no longer use.
