Description

Damiana is commonly used by mouth as an aphrodisiac and to treat sexual problems. It is also used to treat stomach complains such as dyspepsia, diarrhea, and constipation and to improve symptoms of menopause and premenstrual syndrome (PMS). But there is little scientific evidence to support its use for any of these conditions.

Uses & Effectiveness

  •          Sexual problems – Early research suggests that taking a specific combination product containing damiana, L-arginine, American ginseng, Panax ginseng, ginkgo, vitamins, and minerals might improve sexual satisfaction, increase orgasm frequency, and reduce vaginal dryness in women with sexual problems who are interested in improving their sex lives.
  •          Weight loss – Early research suggests that taking a specific combination product containing damiana, guarana, and yerba mate might reduce body weight in people who are overweight.
  •          Headaches.
  •          Bedwetting.
  •          Depression.
  •          Nervous upset stomach.
  •          Constipation.
  •          Boosting mental and physical stamina.

USAGE : The most popular way of serving Damian is brew. It is enough to put 1-2 teaspoons of  ground leaves into a glass, pour hot, almost boiling water and let it rest for 10 minutes under cover. You can drink a drink like tea, but also cool it and prepare lemonade (eg with fresh rosemary or fruit).

Do not exceed three glasses a day and take breaks in its drinking to relieve the liver. Pregnant women should avoid it, and not give it to young children. Damian’s leaf does not cause side effects, however, people struggling with serious diseases, taking medication or birth control pills should consult a doctor.

Special Precautions & Warnings:

Pregnancy and breast-feeding: There is not enough reliable information about the safety of taking Damiana if you are pregnant or breast feeding. Stay on the safe side and avoid use.

Diabetes: Damiana might affect blood sugar levels in people with diabetes. Watch for signs of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) and monitor your blood sugar carefully if you have diabetes and use damiana.

Surgery: Since damiana seems to affect blood glucose levels, there is a concern that it might interfere with blood glucose control during and after surgery. Stop using damiana at least 2 weeks before a scheduled surgery.
