Chanca piedra (Phyllanthus niruri) is a herb with a very long history of use in traditional healing systems: Ayurveda (India), Jamu (Indonesia), Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) as well as folk medicine of Brazil. Chanca piedra in Spanish means literally “stone breaker”. This name refers to the habit of using this plant as a means of removing gallstones and kidney stones.

In Ayurveda Phyllanthus niruri is called Pitirishi or Budhatri and has been used for over 2,000 years. Formerly this plant was used in such ailments as urinary tract infections, hepatitis or even diabetes. The local population drank infusions of the herb also to relieve the symptoms of asthma and bronchitis.

Herbs Chance piedra can be used as an aid in the treatment of kidney stones removal. It is also believed that it can counteract the formation of new stones. Chance piedra supports the normal level of calcium in the urine, especially when it is too high. Phyllanthus niruri exerts a positive effect on liver regeneration.

CHANCA PIEDRA GREEN DOSES AND USE

Chanca piedra tea:
Infusion
1 tablespoon of herb pour a glass of boiling water, leave to infuse covered for 15 minutes. Strain.

During the treatment of removing existing stones drink 1-3 glasses of tea a day. For prophylactic purposes it is recommended to drink 1-3 glasses a week.

INTERACTIONS AND ADVERSE EFFECTS
It can lower blood sugar and lower blood pressure. People taking medicines that lower blood pressure should not take Phyllanthus niruri at the same time. Do not use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Women trying to get pregnant should also not take Phyllanthus niruri, because it can reduce fertility. Due to the diuretic effect, treatment with Phyllanthus niruri should not be used for a long time – over 3 months.

Herbs Chance piedra may interact with antidiabetic drugs, may also potentiate the effect of drugs that lower blood pressure, beta blockers, so be careful.
