Borax is a naturally occurring mineral and an important source of the element boron, it is a cheap and an effective antiseptic, antifungal and insecticide product.
Boron is essential to maintain the integrity and the functionality of cell walls and to the transmission of signals across cell membranes. It is necessary for the good functioning of the musculoskeletal system and for adjusting the absorption and metabolism of calcium, magnesium and phosphorus. Boron deficiency causes hypoparathyroidism, which leads to osteoarthritis, arthritis, decay, calcification of soft tissues, it causes muscle spasms and rigidity, calcification of the endocrine glands (particularly pineal gland and ovaries), atherosclerosis, kidney stones and nephritis leading ultimately their failure.
The use of borax has confirmed its effect on: arthritis, inflammation of prostate tumours and as a therapy against yeasts (Candida).

Powdered borax is white, consisting of soft colorless crystals that dissolve in water. Occurs naturally in evaporite deposits produced by the repeated evaporation of seasonal lakes. It is also found in some other vitamin supplements.
